I feel inspired to not give up on my non-academic writing aspirations. Thank you for sharing this...its so easy to be hypercritical of oneself especially at a young age and to feel like giving up when your work is not recognised from early on
Good for you Sashan. I wish someone had told me, all those years ago, that you do get better at stuff by doing it, over and over again. Sometimes improvements come quickly - like for me in Bali that time - but the truth is that mostly it's by small forward steps.
True. And I can imagine knowing that can feel liberating and allow you to feel a little less harsh on yourself. I think its helpful for a lot of young people navigating through life where everything is carefully curated on social media. There is a sense of immediacy and instant achievement and those small steps of progress are not often shown.
